Re: no audio

I just rebooted, and now I get audio as usual via SSH now.
Now to test it at the computer.

I just tried:
sudo chmod 1777 /var/tmp
and got no errors, but I still get no audio as a regular user.

Hi All,
I was looking at some Debian trouble-shooting stuff on the Debian site, and
they suggested that I test audio as root, and it does work as root, via SSH.
So the page states:
. Check whether you can play sound as
Root
. Dummy output when switching users? Check that no user is in the audio
group:
fgrep -ie 'audio' /etc/group should return pulse at most
. Verify that /var/tmp/ directory has the correct permissions (1777).
list end
* so if it is not right, how do I make it right?

Thanks.

Subject: no audio

Hi All,
I sure have bad luck with maintaining audio on my Linux devices.
But I was going to try to set up my Asus 701 to play audio from an SDR
dongle, using SDRtrunk.
So I sent over a tar file to that computer and unpacked it with tar, but I
hadn't installed it yet.
I did apt update and apt upgrade and all was okay so far.
I rebooted with the dongle in and I heard espeak doing its usual startup
messages, but I lost audio after that.
I can usually test audio over SSH, and it sends no audio with the usual
audio tests.
I unplugged the dongle, but still no audio.
I'm thinking that this SDR receiver may be seen as a soundcard, even though
it is just a receiver.
I rebooted without it plugged in and still only the startup audio, saying
audio for espeak is enabled and something about cups.
Maybe it has nothing to do with the SDR dongle, and something with the
update.
It's running Bull'seye 32 bit version.
If anyone has any suggestions on restoring audio, it is much appreciated.

Glenn
